Selden is a Brookhaven hamlet strung along Middle Country Road, once called Westfield. Its shops, trades and restaurants serve the Middle Country area.
Apply Now →Selden is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, with 21,262 residents at the 2020 census. It was historically known as Westfield. One of its best-known early residents was Captain Daniel Roe, who fought in the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War, and who built a house on Middle Country Road before the Revolution. Captain Daniel Roe Highway is named for him, and he is buried in a small family cemetery behind the Old Westfield shopping center.
Middle Country Road runs through Selden, and, like many Long Island hamlets without a traditional downtown, its commerce is arranged along roads and in shopping centers rather than around a single main street. That favors businesses that people drive to: auto services, restaurants, grocery and convenience, medical and dental offices, fitness, retail and trades.
The consequence for owners is that visibility, parking and access matter a great deal, and so do the costs that go with them.
A yes to any of these is a legitimate reason to look at working capital. A yes to several suggests sizing the request carefully.
Garages, body shops and tradespeople are common in a hamlet like this. Their cash cycle has two peculiarities: parts and materials are bought before the work is billed, and equipment, such as lifts, diagnostic tools, trucks and tooling, is expensive and eventually needs replacement. For illustration only, a shop that adds a second lift and one technician pays for the equipment and the first month of labor before it sees a single extra repair order. Not our terms.
Selden shares its commercial corridor with Centereach and Coram nearby, and customers cross those boundaries without noticing. A business on Middle Country Road competes with others on the same road in the next hamlet, so the effective market is a stretch of highway rather than one community. When you apply, bank statements show the whole trade area, and the pattern of deposits is what matters, not the name on the sign.
